The magnificent Eugen Sandow, photographed here in 1894 by George Steckel, his physique looking every bit as impressive to a modern eye as it would have to his contemporaries.
A further photograph of the magnificently muscular body builder Eugen Sandow, by Napoleon Sarony of New York.

A very welcome addition to my small collection of photographs showing Eugen Sandow, and such extremely thorough credits are a delight to see!
Eugen Sandow, in a studio photography session for George Steckel, 1894 - his directions appear to have been along the lines of ‘look up; look gently happy’, for the other shot I have from the same series follows the precise same theme!
Another photograph of the great Eugen Sandow, by Napoleon Sarony, published in 1893. One of the first body builders to gain fame and fortune with his noteworthy physique, there are many photographs of this fellow to collect (those I’ve gathered so far can be seen here.)
Early German bodybuilder Eugen Sandow, photographed in 1893 by Benjamin J. Falk (my favourite portrait of this famous fellow dates from a year later, here)
Artistically photographed by George Steckel in 1894, with great clarity and perfect lighting : one of the most flattering shots of the famed Eugen Sandow.
